Science and Spirituality
I don't know if these are ideas that would commonly connect. My indoctrination by my parents in my childhood would have told me "No, certainly they do not connect!" However, I take a new approach to my spirituality and found that some of my closest and not so close friends do also.On Saturday, September 20th, 13 people from very divers backgrounds, fields of study, and schools of thought came together to discuss these ideas. Though connected in text by and these individuals through a 3 hour conversation over a potluck dinner came to understand the connection deeper than just the grammatical conjunction. They saw that spirituality was a feeling of deep connection to the world around you. Not limited to Time and Space, spirituality transcended their mind and thoughts and became a connected conscience.
Jill Bolte Taylor's TED talk nucleated the conversation. The start was just that...a start. The conversation delved in ideas of God and atheists, materialism and asceticism, computational modeling and neuroscience. You can imagine how lost some of us became, but we ended with 1 common idea, the search for happiness.
In the end...whether it's Science or Spirituality, we are all looking for one thing, connectedness and happiness with the world around us.
Hopefully you can join us for our next Discussion group.
