I'm a good world citizen

I fasted today. I did. I did it because sponsors were giving money to a non-profit to feed the famine-plagued people of Africa and they'd give more if I stopped eating for the day. Well they gave money because I didn't eat from 5:30 AM until 5:30 PM. I didn't eat for those hours because I was doing it as a part of a "Fast-a-thon" put on by the Muslim Students' Association. So I starved for 12 hours (usually you're supposed to eat before the sunrise...but i woke up at 6:30 AM and the Sun beat me...so I didn't eat until 5:30 PM and I was really famished).

Isn't there something wrong here? Everywhere? Why not rather collect canned goods or package food for 12 hours to send to Africa? I feel like that extra dollar earned for my "starving" could have been used to rather do an hour of work. I wouldn't even have to be famished by the end of the hour. I think I could package more that $500 worth of food in an hour.

This just hit me.
